Promoting Local Economic Development

The World Forum on Local Economic Development (WFLED) is part of an open working process that brings together a strong multi-stakeholder alliance of committed governments, national and international organizations that recognize the potential of the local economic development approach and work together to advance the debate and strengthen a global partnership for specific actions. This process enables concrete cooperation and joint actions that can help translate the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into local terms, as well as the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, the Paris Agreement, and the Seville Commitment.

Through the World Forum and its intermediate forums, WFLED fosters political dialogue, knowledge sharing, and partnership building. The Forum’s territorial approach recognizes the diversity of contexts and promotes tailored strategies that leverage local resources, strengthen local economies, generate decent employment, and ensure environmental sustainability.

We contribute to consolidating an international network of actors committed to a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable development model.

We support the implementation of inclusive local strategies that strengthen endogenous capacities and promote sustainability.

We promote collaboration between different levels of government and sectors to align public policies with territorial priorities and dynamics.

We promote the creation and circulation of knowledge, methodologies and good practices adapted to territorial realities.

We seek to influence public policies, international cooperation, and local capacities to promote a transformative agenda from the local level.
