Collective action and strategic alliances
A platform for dialogue and co-creation
The WFLED has established itself as the leading platform for leveraging accumulated experience in LED (Local Economic Development), in order to explore the relevance and applicability of different models, tools, and practices. It fosters multi-stakeholder partnerships and coordinated action at the global, regional, and local levels.
The World Forum is convened internationally by the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International Labour Organization (ILO), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and its Committee on Local Economic and Social Development, the Organization of United Regions (ORU-Fogar), and the Global Fund for Cities Development (GFCD).
Furthermore, it has the support and collaboration of the Local2030 Coalition, the Global Care Alliance, RIPESS, the Commonwealth Local Governments Forum, the Global Forum for Social and Solidarity Economy (GSEF), and the OECD Local Development Forum.

Over the years, the Forum has achieved:
- Consolidate LED as an important conceptual framework to promote the formulation and application of policies at the local level for sustainable local development, including a focus on decent work.
- Establish a strong multi-stakeholder alliance of national and local governments, development agencies and instruments, the private sector, civil society organizations and academia, among others.
- Linking LED with the SDGs and the local implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
- Promote the strategic value of integrated LED schemes as a means for localizing the SDGs.
- Promote alternative and more inclusive economic models, such as the Social and Solidarity Economy, the circular economy or the green economy.
