National Forums

The final document of the 6th World Forum on Local Economic Development recognizes the central role of territories and their communities as drivers of change toward more equitable, resilient, sustainable, and inclusive development models. It also underscores the importance of strengthening the WFLED’s connection with national and regional forums on local economic development, as a way to consolidate a structured dialogue and a convergence of agendas from the local to the global level and vice versa.
This articulation contributes to more coherent and effective multi-level governance, in which economic, social, cultural, and environmental policies are built upon the realities, capacities, and aspirations of local territories, promoting participatory processes that strengthen the capacity of local actors to act. By integrating with the WFLED process, national forums can broaden their scope beyond strictly urban frameworks, incorporating a territorial and productive perspective that is key to comprehensively addressing the challenges of sustainable development.
In this context, national forums can play a strategic role as platforms for connecting international agendas with local dynamics, generating knowledge, proposals, and alliances that enrich global debates with concrete experiences from the local level. They also serve as valuable spaces for showcasing innovative and scalable solutions in areas such as a just ecological transition, inclusive digitalization, the care economy, decent work, and community resilience.
Strengthening the links between the WFLED, national forums, and other strategic spaces for dialogue and exchange enhances the impact of territorial policies, accelerates the implementation of global frameworks, and contributes to building a development model centered on people and their communities. This model, from a territorial and systemic perspective, promotes structural transformation based on equity, sustainability, shared responsibility, and social cohesion.
